2023 Forecast

Currently, 33 of the buildings under construction or topping out are supertall buildings; as long as 27 are completed in 2023, it will break the record of 26 supertall building completions in 2019, marking a real return to normal skyscraper construction. The 2023 completion list is expected to be led by Kuala Lumpur's Merdeka 118, which at 679 meters will officially become the second tallest building in the world and the fourth megatall (over 600 meters) to be completed in history.pictureAt the same time, considering the large number of skyscrapers that will be completed soon, CTBUH predicts that at least 155 buildings with a height of 200 meters and above will be completed in 2023, and up to 205 buildings will be completed. Of those, between 16 and 26 are expected to be supertalls, and any number that ends up in that range would break records on multiple fronts, as this could be the most skyscraper completions ever recorded in a single year. As the pace of construction in China continues to accelerate, more than half of the world's 200-meter-plus buildings may be located in China, a feat not seen in any other country since 1999, when the U.S. owned 124 of the world's 236 skyscrapers. past situation.
