The coated glass market is expected to reach nearly $60.11 billion in 2028.

According to the latest report from Reports and Data, the global coated glass market size is expected to reach USD 60.11 billion in 2028, growing at a CAGR of 8.5% during the forecast period. Rapid growth in the construction industry and the need to develop more energy-efficient buildings to reduce energy consumption are some of the key factors expected to drive market revenue growth over the forecast period.

Residential and commercial buildings account for nearly one-third (32%) of a country's total electricity. Countries such as India are introducing a revised version of the Energy Efficient Building Code (ECBC) to ensure a 50% reduction in energy use by 2030. The government plans to make the new regulation mandatory so municipalities can legally use it.

Coated glass's ability to reduce energy costs associated with heat transfer through windows is expected to boost the market's revenue growth over the forecast period. The coating on the glass increases the thermal efficiency of the window, the coating will reflect the infrared and ultraviolet rays passing through the glass, thus reducing the radiant heat emission. Increasing R&D activities to produce transparent bio-sensing coatings to make conventional glass tougher, self-cleaning and smooth are factors that will propel the market growth. New clear, biomimetic coatings can be used to create scratch-resistant and durable glass for glass, high-quality solar panels, and self-cleaning windows.

NSG Group announced the launch of Pilkington SaniTise in October 2020 to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. Pilkington SaniTise is a clear-coated glass that is naturally activated by UV exposure to sunlight. Pyrolytic coatings on glass provide antimicrobial properties by minimizing enveloped viruses on its surface. Antibacterial activity was significantly increased when exposed to natural UV light from coated glass compared to uncoated glass. It also provides additional protection for building facades, shared transportation such as trains, school buses, restaurants, or hotels, and external shared spaces such as bus shelters. In addition, coated glass is compatible with commercial-grade cleaning products and has high resistance to physical corrosion and chemical damage.

The Low-E glass market is expected to hold the largest revenue share in the global coated glass market. The superior energy efficiency and aesthetics offered by Low-E coatings have increased their demand in the construction industry. Thanks to advances in Low-E coating technology, architects can specify large areas of clear glass to provide daylighting benefits while improving the building's energy performance and environmental performance.

The window industry is expected to witness significant revenue growth over the forecast period. Coated glass windows play an important role in conserving energy in a structure, as windows typically cause the greatest loss of energy. Because of the coating, Low-E windows are more insulating than standard uncoated glass, which also helps reduce energy costs associated with heat transfer caused by windows.
